Managing Winners

How do you manage risk when a long trade moves in your favor? Do you move the stop to breakeven at a set R or leave it open to give the trade room?

It depends. I consider how the market is positioned, the overall situation, and the market stage. Most of my short stops are not raised to breakeven because I believe the market may be starting a downtrend. If the semis are pulling back to make a lower high, I expect more downside. The chance of an instant recovery, upside breakout, or continuation of the uptrend stopping me out seems lower than the chance of downside follow-through. In that situation, I'm more willing to sacrifice open profits to capture more downside.
