Do you always leave part of a position open to ride the whole trend?

Sometimes I sell the whole position into strength, especially when I think the market is extended. If I wait for a close below the 9 EMA, I may give back too much. That means I can miss further upside, but selling into strength helps me limit drawdowns and protect my mental capital. I'd still like to hold for at least a week or two and capture most of the move, but maybe not all of it. I always sell too early, so I'm trying a mixed approach: if I have five longs, maybe sell three and keep the strongest two. Selling is really hard. I don't have a hard rule.
