How much should you trim before earnings?

4 Aug 2026 · Edited from Martin’s stream; not a verbatim quotation.

It really depends, and you have to test it yourself. No one knows what fits you best. Back in 2024 I might trim maybe 15% when a position was up, say, 10R and getting a little extended. But now I don't, because I've gradually learned to sit through pullbacks better. I'm comfortable holding a full position and trailing it with the EMAs, especially when the market is doing well and is in the early phase of an uptrend. It is a process of finding your own approach and style.
