How does the broader market affect how long you hold shorts?

I generally prefer quicker swings on shorts. In this discussion, the market is still above the weekly 50 EMA, which I see as strong support. We could get a powerful bounce or a range between the 50 and the 9/21, so I don't think this is a good time to hold shorts for a long period. Looking back, longer short swings are easier when the market is below the weekly 50. I might hold an individual short longer, but I'm still deciding.
