What signs did you observe on Thursday that made you go short?

13 Jul 2026 · Edited from Martin’s stream; not a verbatim quotation.

I did not initially plan to go short on Thursday. I planned it after closing my semiconductor longs. It was about the trade feedback, my watchlist, and the individual stocks as a whole. After I closed the semiconductor longs, the sector had a huge flush, gapping down 5% and falling nearly 8% intraday. The previous day had also been a huge red day, down 6% intraday. Volatility had been increasing since mid-June or early June, with many wide-range candles, gap-ups, gap-downs, undercut-and-reclaims, breakouts, and then another gap-down. After an uptrend, that type of action can signal lost momentum, a needed break, or a rollover. My long trades were also mostly not working.
